It's only Wednesday, but one former Republican lawmaker called the week a "humiliating" one for his party.

Speaking to MSNBC on Wednesday morning, former Rep. David Jolly (R-FL) said that the House Republicans have egg on their faces after failing to pass the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. To make matters worse, it comes mere days after Republicans were humiliated after Donald Trump demanded they scrap their bipartisan border security bill until after the 2024 election.

"Look, this is a humiliating week not just for Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), but also for Mitch McConnell (R-KY), someone who is so seasoned in Republican leadership you rarely see a strategic mistake the size of which Mitch McConnell has made, which is why Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Mike Lee (R-UT) and so forth are starting to question McConnell's tenure in leadership," said Jolly.

He explained both men failed this week, with Johnson's "embarrassing" failure to deliver unfolding after his party has failed to pass no more than two House Resolutions since the start of the 118th Congress.

"I think they will recover and ultimately have the votes to impeach Secretary Mayorkas, and that might be a fight that the Biden administration wants to continue because Biden has House Republicans on the ropes on immigration," Jolly continued. "But on the question of aid to Israel, to Ukraine, and frankly, Ana, keeping the government open, there are only four more weeks before the next government shutdown deadline."

Jolly went on to say that calling it "sausage making' would be a "kind" characterization.
