A New Yorker reporter tore into so-called "reasonable Republicans" who say they still support former President Donald Trump despite a "truth-resistant" MAGA movement.
Political news outlets pounced on Trump's Monday night town hall, where he answered a few questions before deciding to play music instead. The following morning, Trump canceled a planned CNBC interview and appeared on stage with another conservative-friendly crowd where he fumbled through answers about tariffs and breaking up Google.
New Yorker reporter Susan Glasser said people were willing to fight back against Trump, but after 2025, those folks won't be there.
"I think it really underscores the extent to which people are ignoring what Donald Trump is really literally promising to do," she continued. "I'm not sure why it is that they continue to refuse to take him seriously on this point, considering this is hardly an idle gaffe."

She warned that "propaganda works and lies and disinformation." Trump, she said, has spent the past several years "rewriting history" of what happened on Jan. 6.
And it's not just MAGA supporting him.
"It's Republicans who know better and are doing it anyway," she said. "That's the thing that's really concerning. It's not about facts. In fact, they're saying, we didn't like January 6th, this group of Republicans, yet we're going to go along with him anyway. I think of people like Mike DeWine, the governor of Ohio, or Glenn Youngkin, the governor of Virginia. These are not MAGA hardcore, yet they are supporting Trump, even while recognizing that there are things he's done, including January 6th, they don't agree with."
She called such support akin to a "drug-resistant" problem.
"It's a truth-resistant movement that we're facing here," she said.
