According to a report from the Guardian's David Smith, both of Trump's speeches were low-key affairs before smaller audiences as the president tries to reboot after his 2024 announcement in November which was "widely derided for its absence of sparkle or swagger."

Pistol-packing Black pastors fight to preach while armed — with help of Republican-connected law firms

ALBANY, N.Y. — It was Easter 2021 here in this church founded by Black New Yorkers, and jewel-toned colors spilt through stained glass windows onto a sanctuary adorned with blue hydrangea, forsythia and roses.

The scent of coffee and vanilla wafted from the foyer where the 200 worshippers would mingle and discuss social justice projects after the service.

But as the children's choir sang "God is in Control,” fear filled the church as a sweaty, disheveled man stumbled in, and stood behind the pews.

In an interview with Business Insider published on Friday, Don Falls highlighted what it's like to be in public education in the Sunshine State right now under the "Stop WOKE Act" — and argued that DeSantis' education policy is nothing more than a cynical stunt at the expense of teachers and students.

Citing ‘Stop WOKE’ law, Florida college cancels faculty classes on diversity

ORLANDO, Fla. — Valencia College has canceled optional faculty development courses on diversity-related topics, another casualty of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ push to rid campuses of what he calls “woke indoctrination.” College leaders determined eight courses planned for the spring semester might violate House Bill 7, which Republicans dubbed the “Stop WOKE” law, prohibiting the teaching of critical race theory on K-12 and college campuses. A total of 64 faculty members had signed up for the courses, which planned to address topics like racism, microaggressions, privilege and inequities in the LGBTQ ...

Students vow to sue DeSantis over rejection of AP African-American studies course

Three high school students represented by attorney Benjamin Crump are planning to sue Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for rejecting a new high school Advanced Placement African-American studies course, the prominent civil rights lawyer said Wednesday.

As Common Dreamsreported last week, DeSantis rejected the pilot course in AP African-American studies being tested by the College Board—the organization behind the SAT exam—as he believes it "lacks educational value" and violates the state's Stop WOKE Act by promoting critical race theory (CRT). There is little to no evidence that CRT—a graduate-level academic discipline examining systemic racism—is being taught in any K-12 school in Florida, or anywhere in the United States.

DeSantis' secret army of Twitter grifters is 'a ragtag band of misfits' and 'washed-up MAGA people': report

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has a secret "army" of promoters on social media who try to build his clout, according to a new Daily Beast profile on Wednesday — but many of them are less than reputable, and causing more headaches for the governor's brand and image.

"According to five Republicans familiar with the discussions, the governor’s top lieutenants have quietly recruited a network of conservative social media influencers as part of a broader attempt to circumvent the mainstream press and appeal directly to GOP primary voters nationwide," reported Jake Lahut. Among them are, "Jack Murphy, a podcast host and self-described 'alpha-male giga chad' involved in a quasi-professional cuckolding porn scandal. John Cardillo, a former Newsmax TV host and unregistered arms dealer who allegedly stiffed the Ukrainian government for $200,000 worth of body armor plates. Christian Walker, Herschel Walker’s right-wing influencer son who helped tank his father’s Senate campaign. David Reaboi, a Hungary-loving and Qatar-hating bodybuilder with longstanding ties to John Bolton."
