Trump 'worked behind the scenes' to change GOP primary rules to help him coast to victory: report

Former President Donald Trump's strategists have pushed a series of rules in the Republican primary process that makes it disproportionately easy for him to win delegates in the primary contest, reported POLITICO on Friday.

According to Rachel Bade, loyalists to Trump have "worked behind the scenes" and have been "quietly reaching out to allies" in states to both alter rules in ways that make it easier for Trump, or stop rule changes that would hurt him.

'Falling off a cliff': Could DeSantis campaign flame out entirely?

ORLANDO, Fla. — As Gov. Ron DeSantis plummets in the GOP presidential primary polls, his status as option number two in case anything happens to Donald Trump is getting more precarious. He’s battling native son and daughter Tim Scott and Nikki Haley in South Carolina. He’s neck and neck in some polls with businessman Vivek Ramaswamy and could become the target of everyone who doesn’t want to attack Trump directly. His campaign is laying off staff to try to cut spending as contributions dry up and mired in a debate about whether slaves developed beneficial skills for later in life. It’s also un...

DeSantis Disney appointee taught seminar falsely claiming white people were also slaves

As part of his escalating fight with Disney after they criticized his anti-LGBTQ school legislation, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his allies in the state legislature passed a law that let him step in and take over the special taxing district that provides public services to the Walt Disney World resort complex, a move designed to limit the powers of the company as retaliation for criticizing him. One of the steps of that involved hand-picking a new oversight board to manage the district.

According to CNN's KFILE investigative feature, one of the members DeSantis appointed to that board has promoted racist historical myths about slavery.

FL Black caucus condemns Ron DeSantis

Members of the Florida Legislative Black Caucus have criticized Gov. Ron DeSantis, saying he is using the controversy surrounding the state’s African American history standards to boost his presidential bid.

“This governor has proven, without fail, that he has no interest in protecting Black history, no interest in helping Floridians, and absolutely no interest in anything beyond his ridiculous presidential ambitions,” Jacksonville Sen. Tracie Davis wrote in a statement from the caucus on Thursday.

As he faces national backlash from both Democrats and Republicans, DeSantis continues to defend the standards approved last month by the State Board of Education. Earlier this week, the governor went as far as challenging Vice President Kamala Harris to visit him in Tallahassee to debate those standards, which included the assertion that enslaved people learned valuable skills.
