‘Can smell a loser’: Report says the Murdochs are souring on DeSantis

Looking to move on from Donald Trump while still advancing much of the former president’s policy agenda, the Murdoch family turned to Ron DeSantis as its preferred potential 2024 presidential candidate almost immediately after Joe Biden took office.

But the influential family behind Fox News has in recent weeks soured on the Florida governor, Rolling Stone reports.

GOP could lose state of Florida because of Farmers Insurance: ex-Trump official

A flood of insurance companies fleeing Florida could cost the GOP the state in the next election, a former Trump official warned Tuesday.

Michael Caputo, the assistant secretary of public affairs under Trump, was reacting to Farmers Insurance's announcement earlier in the day that it was dropping all home and auto insurance policies in the state and leaving, Newsweek reported.

Merrick Garland may be to blame if Trump beats docs case: legal expert

If Donald Trump beats federal charges over the handling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, special counsel Jack Smith may have his boss to blame.

That’s according to former federal prosecutor Shan Wu, who writes for The Daily Beast that Attorney General Merrick Garland’s cautious approach to prosecuting the former president put Smith at a disadvantage that Trump’s lawyers are now trying to exploit.

‘Hidden agenda’: Miami Herald suggests DeSantis crippled hiring for Florida uni president because he wants unqualified crony in the job

The search for the next president of Florida Atlantic University has ground to a halt after the State University System of Florida chancellor — a former Republican state senator — ordered it stopped.

'He thinks he owns Iowa': Trump's attacks have left conservatives fuming in crucial state

Former President Donald Trump is alienating conservative voices in Iowa, the first state in the calendar to hold a GOP presidential contest, as the primary season draws nearer, reported The New York Times on Tuesday.

"He lashed out at Iowa’s popular Republican governor, Kim Reynolds, and then his campaign informed one of the state’s politically influential evangelical leaders, Bob Vander Plaats, that the former president would skip a gathering of presidential candidates this week in Des Moines," reported Shane Goldmacher and Maggie Haberman.

‘Gays for Trump’ leader wants Republicans to stop focusing on ‘stupid gray areas’

Once upon a time — say, December — you could find Donald Trump talking an awfully strong pro-gay game.

“We are fighting for the gay community, and we are fighting and fighting hard,” he told a Mar-a-Lago ballroom’s worth of LGBTQ revelers gathered for a Log Cabin Republican gala, as reported by Politico.

Foreign governments targeting people in DeSantis' orbit since he launched his presidential campaign: report

Foreign governments have taken an interest in Ron DeSantis' presidential campaign — including Qatar, which recently finalized a deal with a major lobbyist in Florida to renew a lobbying contract. The lobbyist, Bill Rubin, is politically tight with DeSantis and is a major player in Florida GOP politics, Politico reported.

"For Qatar, Rubin’s firm helped facilitate meetings with government officials and provide PR assistance, first representing them in 2021," Politico's report stated. "The firm also subcontracts out work to a progressive Florida-based communications firm, Edge Communications. The decision to renew the contract with Rubin, Turnbull and Associates gave the Middle Eastern nation continued access to one of the Republican Party’s most powerful and ascendant officials."

Mike Pence now considered a RINO because the GOP has moved so far to the right — and that's bad news for Pence

Mike Pence ticks off all the boxes a staunch conservative would have wanted from a Republican presidential candidate in almost any other period in modern American political history.

But Jonathan V. Last writes for The Bulwark that amid a realigned political landscape, yesterday’s Reagan acolyte is today’s RINO.

Trump's 2024 rivals waiting for him to drop in the polls are kidding themselves: analyst

Republican rivals to former President Donald Trump are trying to assuage fears about their failure to break through in the polls by saying that it is still early, and there is plenty of time for Trump to sag in the polls and for them to catch up. “There’s a long way to go in this campaign,” said former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Fox News Sunday, adding, “At this time in 2015, Donald Trump was at 4 percent. So I don’t think anybody should be worried about the polling right now.” (In fact, Trump was at 9 percent.) Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis had a similar line, telling Fox that “most people aren’t paying attention" yet.

But this really isn't a good argument, wrote Philip Bump for The Washington Post on Monday.

Tough-on-crime GOP presidential candidate pleads ignorance after violating financial disclosure law

Larry Elder, the tough-on-crime conservative talk radio host and longshot Republican candidate for president, blew past a federal deadline for filing a personal financial disclosure report, Raw Story has learned.

The violation could result in a fine. But it’s unlikely Elder will pay much — if anything — because of notoriously weak enforcement of federal laws governing lawmakers’ mandatory personal financial disclosures.

'Bordering on whiny': DeSantis' 'lackluster' campaign ripped apart by columnist

Recent news seems to suggest that Ron DeSantis' presidential campaign is tanking, citing polls showing him trailing Donald Trump by more than 30 points while Fox News confronted him on his diminishing star power. According to CNN's Dean Obeidallah, while DeSantis looked good on paper for a GOP frontrunner, he wasn't immune from Trump's personal attacks – and that is why his campaign is floundering.

In response to the attacks, DeSantis tried taking the high road. But Trump's only escalated his taunts -- to which DeSantis still tried to pull his punches.

‘A state that is disgraceful’: Trump trashes swing state he has to win in 2024

For Donald Trump to have any chance at winning the 2024 presidential election, he has to win swing states such as Nevada. But he has a funny way of endearing himself to their voters.

The former president’s comments over the weekend to a Nevada news outlet are unlikely to garner new fans in the Silver State.

Trump's foes are blowing their chance to destroy him by thinking 'it's still early': columnist

Donald Trump's 2024 opponents are making the mistake of thinking there's plenty of time to destroy him, Washington Post columnist Philip Bump warned Monday.

By adopting a 'we're a long way from voting' attitude at this stage of the race means they could find out they've left it to long to launch an effective campaign against him, he said.
