Calls for the resignation of Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel are growing louder from conservative activists — but they have barely any chance at succeeding, Politico reported Thursday.
Despite humiliating losses in last week's elections, getting rid of the chair now would likely plunge the party into chaos in the run-up to the 2024 general election, the report said.
The calls for her to be replaced have been focused on elections and other issues, including how the RNC under McDaniel has handled the Republican debates.

While most agree that ousting McDaniel would be poor timing considering the upcoming election, the growing criticism "threatens to add a layer of uncertainty to the GOP’s campaign operations" during the current election season, according to Politico.
“I think it would make some people happy — maybe a lot of people happy — but I think in the end it would probably be detrimental to the party to try to have her removed by vote,” said Oscar Brock, the GOP's national committeeman from Tennessee, according to Politico.
“Frankly, I don’t think there’s any way in the world you can get a two-thirds vote to replace her," he said, referring to the amount of RNC members who would need to vote against her.
While several presidential candidates have been upset with the thresholds the RNC set for debate qualifications — whether they were too high or too low — Trump and his allies have registered an entirely different set of complaints," Politico's report stated.
"The ex-president has pressed McDaniel to cancel the debates altogether and devote more resources to election integrity efforts, according to two people briefed on the conversations."
Despite the criticism, the RNC is publicly standing behind McDaniel.

“Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and the entire Republican National Committee is laser-focused on beating Biden next fall,” an RNC spokesperson said. “The RNC will continue to communicate with all campaigns and candidates as we look forward to putting our battle-tested infrastructure behind our Presidential nominee.”
On Wednesday, Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign launched an online petition calling for her ouster.
“I think I should just say that, ‘Ronna McDaniel should resign, there needs to be some accountability, she should get up on stage right now. She’s here, Ronna come up here and resign,’” Ramaswamy said to conservative podcaster Benny Johnson.
On Sunday, McDaniel responded to Ramaswamy, saying the “circular firing squad” of blame is “hurting” the GOP.
