The radio station co-hosting the GOP primary debate Wednesday night is staffed by “idiots” hired to cheerlead for Donald Trump, a former U.S. Representative told the Washington Post Wednesday.

Salem Media Group — a 2016 GOP debate co-host and the group behind the thoroughly fact-checked election theft documentary “2000 Mules” — shoulders the hefty responsibility with NBC News, which has garnered some criticism over the partnership, the Post reports.

“They brought in these idiots whose only cachet was they were Trump cheerleaders,” former Salem host and U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh reportedly said of the media group. “You could not stand there being even ambivalent to Trump."

Walsh, who was a Salem Host from 2013 to 2019, detailed a slew of new hires the media group brought in to sing the former president’s praises, among them MAGA activist Charlie Kirk, former Trump staffer Sebastian Gorka, and Jenna Ellis, the attorney who last month pleaded guilty in the Georgia RICO case against him.

The Post also notes Salem’s connection as executive producer of Dinesh D’Souza’s “2000 Mules” that underwent scathing fact-checks by the Washington Post and Reuters, who found it to be without “any concrete, verifiable evidence.”

While NBC has been criticized for this partnership, the Washington Post notes the GOP chose Rumble as its streaming service, despite or because it is a platform where conspiracy theories are born and spread.

NBC also maintains they will hold absolute editorial control over the third primary debate, the Post reports. Salem will be represented by moderator and Washington Post columnist Hugh Hewitt. NBC anchors Lester Holt and Kristen Welker will also moderate.

Meanwhile, Walsh warns Salem is more than it purports to be.

“They’ve always bragged about being a good Christian company,” he said. “They just spew hatred.”
