Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent appeared before the Senate Finance Committee on Thursday to pitch President Donald Trump's 2026 budget. The hearing grew heated when Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) began asking questions about the tax cuts to wealthy Americans that will add to the deficit and national debt.

Wyden cited the Joint Committee on Taxation, which found that "millionaires will get tax breaks of a quarter million dollars."

Wyden asked, "Are you with those high earners or do you think it's more important that two million hungry kids have enough to eat?"

Bessent didn't like the question, calling it "semantics."

"Why don't you just answer the question?" Wyden asked

"Why don't you ask an honest question?" Bessent shot back.
