MAGA lawmaker gets into testy exchange after Fox host accuses him of 'writing off' Ukraine

Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA), the right-wing lawmaker who was at the center of former President Donald Trump's efforts to throw out certified 2020 election results in the House of Representatives, got into a testy exchange with Fox Business's Stuart Varney on Tuesday about helping Ukraine repel Russia's ongoing military onslaught.

During a discussion on the proposed foreign aid package, Perry repeated Republican demands that nothing should be given to Ukraine without passing any legislation to beef up border security.

Varney, however, asked Perry if he was willing to risk the potential global destabilization that could come from Russia using force to annex Ukraine.

"Are you prepared... to have Putin win in Ukraine because of the border?" asked Varney.

"We don't want to lose Ukraine..." Perry began.

"But they might [lose]!" Varney interjected.

Perry then argued that "you're probably not going to save Ukraine," despite the fact that the country had been more than holding its own against Russia for two years before Republicans in the House of Representatives refused to supply the country with fresh aid six months ago, which has caused the Ukrainian army to run into severe ammunition shortages.

"Let's face it, they're not winning the war over there against Russia, which is massively overpowering them," he said.

This seemed to take Varney aback, and he asked Perry if he and his fellow Republicans were "writing [the Ukrainians] off."

"No we're not writing them off!" a testy Perry shot back. "Are you willing to, essentially, write off America and America's border to send $65 billion to Ukraine for which we're never going to see anything come back from?"

Perry then accused the Biden administration of lacking a "strategy for victory" in Ukraine.
