Tim Scott 'glad' for Andrew Cuomo's impeachment after saying Trump impeachment 'will only lead to more hate'

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) on Wednesday agitated for the impeachment of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) over a nursing home scandal in the state.

Scott, who recently opposed the impeachment of President Donald Trump, was asked about allegations that New York misreported nursing home deaths during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I'm so thankful that we see Democrats in New York standing up against the governor, maybe even looking for ways to impeach him," Scott said. "I believe it was New York that sent COVID patients back into nursing homes so we need a full vetting of what actually happened."

Scott, however, opposed the impeachment of Trump, arguing that it would not bring about unity in the country.

“The Democrat-led impeachment talks happening in the House right now fly in direct opposition to what President-elect Joe Biden has been calling for all year," the senator wrote in a tweet. “An impeachment vote will only lead to more hate and a deeply fractured nation."

Scott later became the only Black senator to vote to acquit Trump of inciting an insurrection.
