Police are hunting a gunman after two people were shot dead near the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas late Sunday, according to a report from the Independent.

The shooting took place around 10:40 p.m. local time. Police officials said it was incited by an “online conflict.”

According to Las Vegas undersheriff Andrew Walsh, the shooter's identity is known and that he was connected to one of the victims. "The suspect and the victim had previously engaged in some type of conflict using a variety of social media platforms," he added.

Police say the shooting did not take place inside a casino.

Officials were asking the public to stay clear of the area at the heart of the Las Vegas Strip Sunday.
