One of President Donald Trump's top allies bashed the administration's decision to allow Qatar to build a military facility on American soil during an interview on Sunday.
Steve Bannon, host of the "War Room" podcast, discussed the administration's decision on a new episode of "Bolling!" on the MAGA-aligned network Real America's Voice. The interview happened about a day after the Trump administration announced it would allow Qatar to build a military facility in Idaho.
"I have no idea what's going on, and I'm sure we'll find out more," Bannon told host Eric Bolling. "With the Article 5 protection he gave to Qatar, and I throw it back to this is part of the price we're paying for the uh Israel First crowd...and others that had support for [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu."
"This whole thing is so screwed up," he continued.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said on Saturday that Qatar to build an Air Force facility at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, according to CNN. The site will host Qatari F-15 fighter jets and "pilots who will train alongside US troops," according to the report.
Bannon surmised that the move to allow Qatar to build a military facility may have been a price Trump had to pay to secure a peace deal between Hamas and Israel. During his first administration, Trump claimed that Qatar was one of the world's leading financiers of Hamas.
"I think Qatar and the Article 5 protection and maybe even this base, is part of it, what they had to do to bring them along," Bannon said. "That shows you the price we're paying for this blind following of the Israel First crowd."
