Texas Democratic lawmaker dies at 70 — just after winning seat in Congress

Rep. Sylvester Turner (D-TX) reportedly died this week just months after winning Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee's (D-TX) former seat in Congress.

Semafor's Kadia Goba confirmed on Wednesday that Turner had died.

"Sad news: Rep. Sylvester Turner, D-Texas, who won the seat of the late Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, died last night," she wrote on X.

Turner, 70, was an attorney who served in the Texas House of Representatives for 26 years.
