Another top Trump health official quits over moves that harm children's health

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s spokesperson was the second high-ranking official to leave the Trump administration in two days in protest, citing the administration's move to greenlight selling flavored vapes that "appeal to children," according to a New York Times report on Wednesday.

Rich Danker wrote a letter to President Donald Trump just 24 hours after FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary quit for the identical reason, The Times reported.

The Times obtained Danker's letter, which included a warning "that authorizing flavored e-cigarettes would draw more children into vaping and increase their risk for a number of health issues, from addiction to cancer." Danker did not blame Trump and wrote that the president had "twice restored our prosperity and national security against all odds."...

Children who spend a lot of time on social media more likely to vape

Youngsters who spend a lot of time on social media are more likely to vape and smoke cigarettes, research suggests. The more time children and young people spend on social media, the more likely they are to be regular users, experts found. This was particularly apparent at higher levels of use, with those on social media more than seven hours a day almost eight times more likely to smoke than non-users, and four times more likely to vape. The study, published in the journal Thorax, included data for 10,808 people aged 10 to 25 from the UK Household Longitudinal Study 2015–2021. In total, just ......

Study: Teenage vapers at higher risk of exposure to toxic metals

Teenagers who vape often could be at a higher risk of exposure to toxic metals, potentially harming brain or organ development, a study has suggested. Sweet e-cigarette flavours could also pose additional risks, according to researchers. US academics used responses from part of the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) study, which included American teenagers aged between 13 and 17. Some 200 teenagers who vaped were included in the analysis, which has been published in Tobacco Control. Of the group, 81 reported doing so frequently, with 65 reporting occasional use and 45 reporting......

Smokers views on vapes 'could put them off quitting,' study shows

The proportion of smokers who think vapes are more harmful than cigarettes is “worse than ever”, academics in the UK have said. Researchers said that misconceptions about the harms of vapes compared to cigarettes could put smokers off quit attempts. It comes as the latest results from a major new poll of smokers in England were published. Some 28,393 adult smokers in England were asked about their perceptions about e-cigarettes between November 2014 and June 2023, with 1,700 people interviewed each month. When the survey began in 2014, just 11% of smokers thought that e-cigarettes were more ha......

'I'm truly sorry': Lauren Boebert backtracks on vaping before Beetlejuice boot

After she was ejected from a theater in Denver during the performance of the "Beetlejuice" musical, the office of Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) initially denied that she had been vaping during the performance, claiming that she was simply surrounded by smoke from fog machines.

However, according to The Daily Beast, now that incontrovertible video evidence has emerged of her vaping, the far-right congresswoman has admitted to it — and apologized.

“Whether it was the excitement of seeing a much-anticipated production or the natural anxiety of being in a new environment, I genuinely did not recall vaping that evening when I discussed the night's events with my campaign team while confirming my enthusiasm for the musical,” Boebert said in a statement. “It’s clear now that was not accurate.”...

Watch: Lauren Boebert video shows her vaping before 'Beetlejuice' boot

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) recently denied being kicked out of a Beetlejuice performance at Denver's Buell Theater for refusing to quit vaping near a pregnant woman. A new video appears to show that's exactly what happened.

It was reported on Tuesday that Boebert had been ejected from a performance of the "Beetlejuice" musical in downtown Denver after causing a disturbance. Later, a report suggested Boebert was asked to leave after she failed to stop vaping near a woman who was pregnant who had been asking for the lawmaker to stop.

Boebert's office reportedly denied that allegation. ...
