CNN host Jake Tapper on Friday cornered a Republican politician hoping to replace former congressman George Santos for a potentially hypocritical stance on Donald Trump.

The host of "The Lead With Jake Tapper" brought New York Republican Kellen Curry on to discuss Santos and the potential for the seat to go to the Democrats. The interview changed tone when Tapper asked Curry about his opinion on Donald Trump, who has, like Santos, been plagued by criminal indictments.

"Our attention right now is on this race right now to make sure that we get it right in 2024 and we have the opportunity to do that here in about three months," the guest replied.

Tapper pressed him again, asking if Curry thinks Trump is fit for office and who he preferred among the GOP candidates.

"I get that," Tapper said, "but you can't not give me an opinion on the most popular Republican in the Republican Party right now, the leading Republican presidential candidate. If you don't think George Santos is fit to be in Congress, you must have an opinion about whether Donald Trump is fit to be in the White House."

Curry evaded the question again, saying, "At the end of the day, the American people are going to decide that."

Tapper didn't give up, instead shifting his line of questioning to who Curry preferred in the GOP presidential race.

"I'm going to support the Republican nominee at the end of the day," Curry responded.

Tapper hit back: "It's not the end of the day. It's only 4:23. Who do you like?"

After Curry again said he would support the Republican nominee "at the end of the day," Tapper repeated his line that it's not the end of the day and insisted on an answer.
