Texas anti-abortion law is back in effect after order from appeals court: report

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has granted an emergency motion by the state of Texas to re-instate the controversial, near-total ban on abortions passed by Republican legislators.

On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman issued a temporary restraining order blocking the law. Texas appealed, and the law is now back in effect.

"It is so ordered that Appellant's emergency motion to stay the preliminary injunction pending appeal is temporarily held in abeyance pending further order by this motions panel," the order read.

The Department of Justice was giving until Tuesday afternoon to respond.
