CNN host gives frustrated sigh as Texas officials 'stonewall' questions on flood

CNN's Pamela Brown, who attended Camp Mystic as a child, expressed frustration Tuesday that officials weren't answering basic questions about evacuation efforts during deadly flash flooding that occurred in Central Texas over the weekend.

Brown let out an audible sigh as Kerr County officials wrapped up Tuesday's update on the recovery efforts. They reported that at least 108 people were killed when the Guadalupe River crested. At least 27 girls and counselors at a summer camp were among them.

Five campers and one counselor remained missing Tuesday.

CNN reported that "while at least one neighboring county issued evacuation orders in the morning hours of July 4, Kerr County officials don’t appear to have done so."

"They didn't really provide specific information to those critical questions: what were the specific actions that was taking place between 1:14 a.m. when that National Weather Service alert came in of severe flood, and 4 to 5 when everything was really dangerous and that severe flooding was happening," Brown said of the press briefing.

"I mean, you heard the sheriff there say they say that he didn't get involved and get alerted until the 4 to 5 area when 9-1-1 calls were coming in. I do think that says a lot."

Brown said officials were working on a response timeline, "but here we are...five days in and people want information...the officials don't have the luxury of not answering these key questions.

"There's been a lot of stonewalling, too, to answer basic questions that we really should have the answers for," Brown said. "I mean, what were the emergency managers doing? What was the communication between the National Weather Service and them? Why can't these simple questions be answered?"
