President Donald Trump may have inadvertently filled the campaign coffers of Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) by attacking him for opposing the administration's massive spending bill.
After Massie suggested he would oppose the "One Big Beautiful Bill," Trump threatened to mount a primary challenge against the sitting lawmaker.
On Wednesday, Massie said Trump had not reached out to him for his support on the bill.
“I mean, he reaches out every day on Twitter… reaching out with a million dollars of ads in my district with a picture of me and the Ayatollah,” the Republican told a Wall Street Journal correspondent.
Massie later revealed that campaign contributions have poured in since Trump first launched his attacks.
"Rep. Thomas Massie tells me that in the 10 days since Trump started really going after him, he’s raised more than $400k from 4,573 donors," The Hill's Emily Brooks reported. "Effort is underway to recruit a primary challenger, but Massie says he’s hearing from folks targeted for recruitment by various groups who are turning it down, saying they wouldn’t run against Massie."
