A Tennessee Republican turned on some in his own party Friday over their lack of attention on criminal referrals against President Joe Biden's son Hunter and his brother James.
On Friday, Sharla McBride, co-host of Newsmax "Wake Up America," asked Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) whether the criminal referrals filed this week by House Republicans will gain traction. Burchett, an outspoken critic of many in his party, took little time saying he has complete faith that Reps. Jim Jordan, chair of the House Judiciary Committee, and James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, will pursue the case.
"Both these men are very dedicated to this," Burchett said, but added there's a "problem."
"You've got some gutless Republicans who are sitting there looking at their election instead of looking at the future of the country and that is pitiful," he said. "You know, that's what's going to end up happening I'm afraid."
Republicans on the Oversight, Judiciary and Ways and Means committees have accused the two Biden men of making false statements to Congress during the impeachment inquiry of the president. Republicans demanded the Justice Department — which they often accuse of political weaponization against former President Donald Trump — pursue criminal charges against Hunter and James Biden.
"Hunter Biden falsely distanced himself from a corporate entity Rosemont Seneca Bohai, LLC-and its bank account," Republicans said in a letter released this week.
"Additionally, Hunter Biden during his testimony relayed an entirely fictitious account about threatening text messages he sent to his Chinese business partner while invoking his father's presence with him as he wrote the messages."

Burchett said there are several lawmakers in his party who could derail efforts to pursue charges against the Bidens, whom he called a "crime family."
"You'll get down to three or four or five [Republicans] that just don't have the guts to pull the trigger on this thing, and that's what'll happen," Burchett said. "But I still think we ought to go ahead with these investigations because these folks are obviously guilty and they're hiding stuff."
Hunter Biden is standing trial in Delaware federal court on charges that he lied about his drug addiction when purchasing a gun in 2018. He has pleaded not guilty.
