Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) claimed that a scandal referred to as Signalgate was a conspiracy to undermine now-former National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.

After President Donald Trump announced that Waltz would step down to become his nominee for ambassador to the United Nations, Real America's Voice host Steve Gruber asked Burchett about the move.

"Mike Waltz is a patriot. He's fought for this country. He's a Green Beret," the lawmaker asserted on Thursday. "I think he's going to be a great extension of this White House and showing the world really what America is about, because they're not going to outthink him."

"You know, there's a lot of speculation as to why he was stepping down," Gruber noted, referring to the Signalgate scandal that broke out after Waltz added journalist Jeffrey Goldberg to a group chat where secret war plans were discussed.

"Nobody gives a rip about Signalgate," Burchett insisted. "Nothing was put out that any of our enemies got, and any mistakes that were made have been corrected. And that was an inside deal."

"Somebody set them up, and that's all I'm going to say," he added. "As Forrest Gump would say, that's all I'm going to say about that before I get myself in trouble. No, Mike Waltz is the man."
