Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche took the microphone to deliver a speech to National Guard troops in Washington, D.C. on Thursday — but struggled to make himself heard over a constant stream of shouting and boos from protesters.

Blanche was there to give a speech to thank the guardsmen for their duties patrolling D.C. and working on President Donald Trump's vanity beautification projects around the city.

"Thank you everybody, my name's Todd Blanche, I'm the acting attorney general," said Blanche, as the shouting began to grow in volume. "So on behalf of the United States Department of Justice, I want to tell every one of you men and women, from the bottom of my heart, thank you."

"It was just about one year ago today when President Trump said that he looked around this city, the capital of the greatest country in the history of civilization, and didn't like what he saw," Blanche said, as the shouting and boos continued and gave way to angry anti-Trump chanting. "He didn't like the crime, he didn't like the way it looked, and he instructed us to do something about it. And that's exactly what we've done."

All of this comes as the president's "Great American State Fair" continues on the National Mall, amid sparse attendance and embarrassing setbacks.
