A prominent Chinese journalist fired back at Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) late Wednesday night after the MAGA lawmaker labeled China as an “increasing threat” for waging what he called an “economic war” against Arkansas farmers.
“Communist China has waged economic war on Arkansas farmers and manufacturers for decades,” Cotton wrote in a social media post on X Wednesday night. “Thankfully, we now have a President who is standing up for American interests in the face of China’s increasing threat.”
Cotton has long been critical of China, having called the nation an “evil empire,” said the United States should “be prepared for war with China,” and said Chinese students in America should be prohibited from studying science-related fields as to not “[train] the Chinese Communist Party’s brightest minds.”
Chen Weihua, a prominent Chinese journalist, issued a short rebuke of Cotton’s most-recent allegation against China, and one that saw online critics dogpile on the Trump ally.
“Senator Cotton is less intelligent than a cow on an Arkansas farm,” Weihua wrote in an online post that was viewed more than 46,000 times.
Weihua has gained notoriety for his attacks on U.S. lawmakers who make derogatory remarks about China. Perhaps his most famous response was in 2020 to Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who wrote on social media that “China has a 5,000 year history of cheating and stealing." Weihua responded to Blackburn’s post with a single word: “B----,” a comment that received more than 120,000 likes on X.
Regarding Weihua’s attack on Cotton as being “less intelligent than a cow,” users on X began to join Weihua in mocking the MAGA senator.
“Hey, don’t talk about cows like that,” wrote Stephanie Welch, a media producer, in a social media post on X.
“Even that’s generous,” wrote X user “Dr. Anton,” a cryptocurrency enthusiast with nearly 2,000 followers. “A cow is rather lovable.”
