Conservative Washington Post columnist Henry Olsen thinks that he has a surefire plan to deny former President Donald Trump the 2024 Republican Party nomination.
In his latest column, Olsen thinks that former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Vice President Mike Pence ought to essentially run a tag-team operation whose goal is to "torpedo Trump's campaign."
He starts by outlining the strengths of both men by noting that Christie has both a "bombastic personality and sharp debating skills" that will "give him the tools to be a thorn in Trump’s side."
Pence, meanwhile, has an "earnestness" that "might wound Trump more with a key group of voters: evangelicals."

As Olsen sees it, the two candidates would work to chip away at key sections of the GOP voting base that support Trump until something finally breaks through to primary voters.
"Christie could weaken Trump’s fan base among less ideological supporters who like Trump’s brashness, Pence could help force the scales to fall from the eyes of Trump’s religious supporters," he argues. "Together, they can soften Trump’s lead significantly before the campaign starts in earnest in the fall."
While this might sound good on paper, recent polls have shown Trump with a dominating lead over his opponents and he leads his closest rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, by more than 30 percentage points.
