'He's losing it': The View mocks Trump's claims about genie being let 'out of the box'

The View's Alyssa Farah Griffin agreed that Donald Trump is "losing it" after seeing clips from his recent interview with Univision.

During the interview, Trump was asked about whether he'll indict some of his political enemies as retribution against them if he ends up winning the 2024 race.

"If they do this, and they've already done it, but if they want to follow through on this, yeah. I could, and it could certainly happen in reverse. Certainly happen in reverse. What they've done is they've released the genie out of the box. If I happen to be president and see somebody who's doing well and beating me very badly, I say go down and indict them. Mostly, that would be — you know, they would be out of business. They'd be out. They'd be out of the election."

Investigations into Trump began after he left office. The Justice Department has long instituted a 90-day policy where they wouldn't reveal any indictments 90 days prior to an election and it appears that was followed for the 2022 midterm elections.

Trump announced he was running the day after the midterms. He has since said that he was targeted as a result of his announcement.

Either way, the phrasing confused "The View" co-hosts.

"I thought the genie was in a bottle? When did it get in the box?" asked Joy Behar. "He's losing it."

"Are voters still going to respond to his constant whining being a victim?" Behar then asked.

Griffin went on to sound the alarm that one of Trump's promises that is being ignored is how he will weaponize government and also how he will work to destroy the government. She explained that he knows how to do it better than before because he learned in the final year of his presidency.

"He isn't motivated by the fear of 'I have to run for reelection.' It will be scarier," she said. "And one thing I just want to say because I think this is not getting enough attention: He wants to gut the civil service. He has talked about how he wants to gut the civil service. He wants to — fire them at will and replace with loyalists. If a pandemic hits, if a war in Israel happens, like we see right now, Ukraine, he will remove people with expertise to solve it and put in loyalists."
