In the wake of sweeping Democratic wins across the nation, President Donald Trump delivered a vague warning late Tuesday night.
“...AND SO IT BEGINS!” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social shortly before midnight Tuesday.
Tuesday’s elections – seen as the first bellwether for the 2026 midterm elections – saw Democratic candidates secure two governorships in Virginia and New Jersey, and secure a win for the progressive wing of the party with the victory of Zohran Mamdani in the New York City Mayoral race.
Democrats also secured a win in California with the passage of Proposition 50, a ballot measure that will see California redraw its congressional districts to combat the redistricting in Texas pushed by Trump to bolster Republican’s majority in the House.
Democrats’ victories also come in the wake of the Trump administration having deployed poll monitors from the Justice Department to both California and New Jersey, a move that critics have decried as blatant “voter intimidation.”
The victories also come despite Trump having issued a slew of endorsements over the weekend just ahead of the election, though he notably did not endorse the Republican gubernatorial candidate in Virginia, Winsome Earle-Sears, with one GOP operative offering the New York Post a possible explanation for the non-endorsement: “Trump doesn’t endorse losers,” they told the outlet.
