President Donald Trump raged over the word “affordability” on Tuesday during a cabinet meeting at the White House, insisting that the word “doesn’t mean anything to anybody” and that it was a “Democrat scam.”
“The word 'affordability' is a Democrat scam!” Trump proclaimed. “They say it and then they go into the next subject, and everyone thinks 'oh, they have lower prices' – no, they had the worst inflation in the history of our country!”
Democratic candidates leaned hard into affordability messaging last month during a series of elections in Virginia and New Jersey, a decision that proved effective after Democrats swept the contests by unprecedented margins. Trump has since adopted the use of the word “affordability” in his own messaging, but has also struggled to stop himself from continuing to attack the word.
“There's this fake narrative that the Democrats talk about, 'affordability,' they just say the word, it doesn't mean anything to anybody!” Trump raged.
Trump also went on to attack a Democratic lawmaker – presumably Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), who he’s called “low IQ” on multiple occasions – for her own use of the word “affordability.”
“The word 'affordability' is a con job by the Democrats!” Trump continued. “I watched the other day where some very low-IQ congresswoman talked about 'affordability, affordability, affordability;' she had no idea!”
