A new poll revealed President Donald Trump is hemorrhaging support from a key voting bloc as the midterms approach.
On Wednesday, a new YouGov poll revealed that Trump has lost significant support from independent voters in several key policy areas. For instance, support among independents has crumbled by 35% on his war in Iran, 22% on Trump's immigration policies, and 53% on his handling of gas prices.
The poll was released at a time when the GOP is privately expressing concerns about the upcoming midterm election. Democrats have over-performed in 28 races around the country, including taking the special election to replace retired Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) in Georgia to a runoff.
Political analysts and observers reacted to the poll on social media.
"Catastrophic," Sohrab Ahmari, U.S. editor for UnHeard, posted on X.
"It’s so funny that he just has his insane cult and no one else at this point, but the Dems aren’t throwing haymakers because many in the top brass are also pliant to Israel and can’t speak too harshly about its ultimate goals of achieving a failed state in Iran," political commentator Hasan Piker posted on X.
"Cost of living is even more unpopular for Trump than Iran," Zeteo News founder Mehdi Hasan posted on X. "He’s also underwater on immigration. Wonder if his advisers hide polls like this from him. Any normal politician would be freaking out and trying to pivot."
"This is actually a more important metric than what the base thinks because independents and swing voters determine election results," Evan Baker, a columnist for The Times, posted on X.
