President Donald Trump shared a bizarre story Saturday about “very distinguished people” who hate darkness in an apparent bid to deliver Senate Republicans a much-needed “win” ahead of the midterms.

Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump shared the anecdote just moments after demanding Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) back a bill to make daylight saving time permanent, urging the Arkansas Republican to “JUST TAKE THE WIN,” adding, “YOU NEED IT, AND SO DOES OUR BELOVED REPUBLICAN PARTY!”

“I don’t know about anyone else, but a table full of very distinguished people just told me that they HATE, immediately after a mandatory time change, going home at night – and it’s DARK,” Trump wrote.

“It’s depressing! One of the gentleman (sic) stated that, ‘I just hate going home in darkness.’ It’s also, in Crime Ridden Blue States, a lot more dangerous to be walking home in the dark!”

Cotton openly defied Trump earlier on Saturday by vowing to oppose the bill to make daylight saving time permanent, arguing that “Arkansans don’t want their kids going to school in the pitch dark.” Trump responded by attacking Cotton’s “ego” and mocking his support among Arkansas voters.
