Former President Donald Trump raised immediate hackles on Friday when he pledged that his administration would be a champion for women's reproductive freedoms.
Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed that "My Administration will be great for women and their reproductive rights."
Given that Trump appointed the Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade back in 2022, and has since bragged about the development, many social media users reacted with ridicule to Trump now positioning himself as a champion of abortion rights.
"Big if true!" wryly joked center-left pundit Matthew Yglesias.
"This is like O.J. promising to find the real killer," cracked attorney Chris Jackson.
"Talk about desperation..." remarked former federal prosecutor Ron Filipkowski.

Pundit Molly Jong-Fast, meanwhile, said that she was "Excited to see what the anti-choice crew thinks of" Trump's swift conversion to the cause of abortion rights.
The New York Times' Jane Coaston similarly wondered how Trump's evangelical supporters would react to such a stark turnaround.
"It is extremely funny watching Trump attempt to triangulate on an issue he personally does not care very much about but the people whose support is most critical to him care about more than literally anything else," she observed.
Holocaust-denying influencer Nick Fuentes expressed serious discomfort with Trump's latest message.
"This morning Trump posted on Truth Social that he will defend women's 'reproductive rights,'" he complained. "At this point what is even the difference between this campaign and the Democrats?"
The Republicans Against Trump Twitter account, however, merely remarked that "this is what desperation looks like."
Conservative anti-Trump attorney George Conway wrote, "He's scared."
In a separate post on Friday, Conway added, "adjudicated sex abuser says what."
