"The Trump administration is furious" as it sees "two different judges saying two different things" in a major case, according to a former prosecutor.
Former State Attorney for Palm Beach County Dave Aronberg appeared on MSNBC on Saturday, where he was asked about Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University graduate and legal permanent resident who returned this weekend after he spent more than three months detained by the federal government under Trump.
Specifically, Aronberg was asked if Khalil could still end up being deported.
Aronberg, who has commented on Trump's legal matters in the past, said that was entirely possible, and noted that Trump's administration is being driven crazy by what it sees as contradictory judicial rulings.
The ex-prosecutor noted that, if the graduate "lied on his visa application, then yes, he could be deported."
"And that's a dispute right now that is being litigated. In fact, there is an immigration judge who determined that he would not let Khalil go free because of these issues. Now, this is a separate judge. This is a separate federal judge with the appropriate power to determine whether or not Khalil can stay behind bars pending all these decisions," he said. "And the trump administration is furious. They're saying, hold on. You have two different judges saying two different things, and they're angry at the whole judiciary."
The analyst added, "They like going after judges. It helps them with their base."
