Former President Donald Trump said this week that the majority of American Jews should feel "ashamed" because they don't vote for Republicans.
Addressing Trump's comments on CNN Tuesday, Jewish Democratic Council of America CEO Halie Soifer said that Trump's comments were a good reminder of why more than two-thirds of Jews in the 2020 election backed President Joe Biden.
"He's conveying this message of contempt anger toward Jewish Americans because he knows that three quarters of us will never support him," Soifer told host John Berman. "So our message to Trump, as he continues to demonstrate animus towards Jewish Americans, the feeling is mutual. It's only going to continue to grow as we head into November."

She then went on to note that Trump's support among Jewish Americans was the lowest among any major religious group and she said there were very valid reasons for that.
"It's because he says he wants to be a dictator on Day One, he aligns and admires dictators like Putin and Orbán," she said. "And we've seen the horrific consequences of dictatorship. We want no part of it. He refused to condemn white supremacy. He's emboldened dangerous white extremists who pose a threat to our security, and he has threatened our democracy and our freedom. So he's a threat to our community and our values!"
Soifer then emphasized that Trump has proven so poisonous to many Jewish Americans that he has no way of winning their support.
"There's nothing he can say between now and November to change that," she charged. "In fact, as he continues to speak more and more about American Jews, he's only going in to continue to lose more support among American Jewish voters."
