A new Gallup poll shows that President Donald Trump has fallen to his lowest point in his second term. The group driving that decline is a key one that helped him win in 2024: independents.
"Six months into his second term, President Donald Trump’s job approval rating has dipped to 37%, the lowest of this term and just slightly higher than his all-time worst rating of 34% at the end of his first term," the report Thursday said.
Trump is down 10% since January and 17% down with independent voters to just 29%. The latter number is the lowest it has ever been in his political career.
New Republic staff writer Greg Sargent pointed to key numbers: "Overall approval: 37% On immigration: 38% On economy: 37% On trade: 36%, Federal budget: 29%."
"Yet corporate media will still ignore this and still cover Trump's every move like his popular as they amplify his lies over and over," commented SiriusXMProgress host Dean Obeidallah on Bluesky.
"This is bad (not Michael Jackson bad)," explained longtime Democratic pollster Cornell Belcher. "And with just a 29% approval among Ind voters… Republicans are ... going to need to re-gerrymander a lot more than just Texas to stay in power."
"Very rare to see Trump's polling drop below 40. He’s at 37%," remarked Republican political consultant Mike Madrid on X.
Deputy editor of Inside Elections, Jacob Rubashkin, pointed out, "This is the rare survey where Trump's overall approval largely matches his approval on specific issues."
