'Stop the presses!' MAGA pundit mocked for defending Trump's 1,200-word attack on comedian

A former Trump White House official faced a round of mockery on CNN Monday after attempting to defend President Donald Trump’s lengthy social media tirade against comedian Bill Maher.

Mike Dubke, who served as Trump’s communications director, suggested Maher had turned against the president to regain favor with Hollywood after previously praising him.

“Wait, wait — Bill Maher is about Bill Maher? Oh my God,” New York Times journalist and CNN contributor Lulu Garcia-Navarro interrupted. “Stop the presses!”

Former Biden White House communications director Kate Bedingfield quickly piled on, arguing Trump’s attack had backfired.

“Nothing says I don't care about you like a 1200-word screed,” Bedingfield said. “All you've done is reinforce that Bill Maher is living in your head.”

“So it’s great for Bill Maher,” she added Monday.

Trump unleashed the more than 1,300-word Truth Social attack Sunday, calling Maher a “complete and total loser” after the comedian mocked his sagging poll numbers.

Bedingfield questioned why the president was focused on a comedian just days before the midterm elections.

“I can’t imagine that there is a single voter in this country who cares what Donald Trump thinks about Bill Maher,” she said.

“It’s just a weird use of bandwidth eight days out, nine days out.”
