Former President Donald Trump went on a posting spree on Truth Social on Boxing Day, quoting a number of pundits and experts he believed discredit the Colorado Supreme Court decision disqualifying him from the ballot under the 14th Amendment.
One of those people was New York Magazine's Jonathan Chait — specifically, a column he wrote earlier this month about the issue which was critical of the court's decision.
"Jonathan Chait, The Intelligencer: 'To deny the voters the chance to elect the candidate of their choice is a Rubicon-crossing event for the judiciary. It would be seen forever by tens of millions of Americans as a negation of democracy,'" Trump posted.
But Chait was not very happy about being quoted in part by the former president — and took to his social media account to remind him and the world that this article was not meant to be an endorsement of his candidacy and actions.

"The column he's quoting also argues, 'His use of violent threats to secure power is obviously unforgivable, authoritarian, and very likely criminal,'" wrote Chait.
The Colorado justices agreed with a lower court ruling that Trump had engaged in insurrection — and further found that this disqualifies him under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which was passed after the Civil War to establish insurrection as a disqualification for office. Trump is widely expected to appeal this to the U.S. Supreme Court.
