Former President Donald Trump was given a temporary victory on Thursday when the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals granted his administrative stay on handing over documents to House Select Committee investigating the Capitol riots.
And according to Reuters legal reporter Jan Wolfe, it's likely that Trump's victory will be very temporary.
The reason, he writes, is that Trump has drawn Judges Patricia Millett, Robert Wilkins, and Ketanji Brown Jackson, all of whom were appoint to the court by Democratic presidents.
"Folks, don't lose sight of the real news here: Trump drew an unfavorable panel of judges," Wolfe writes on Twitter. "He faces very long odds here."
When one of Wolfe's followers complained that the court needlessly delayed the delivery of the documents to the House Select Committee, Wolfe said that the court's likely ruling against Trump was more important than any temporary setback.
"An appellate opinion in favor of the House (which seems likely) would be a hugely important precedent, potentially blocking ex-presidents from doing what Trump is trying to do," he wrote. "A district court order does not have the same precedential value."
