U.S. District Court Judge Lewis Kaplan heard that former President Donald Trump planned to break his rules when testifying in a defamation trial.

Trump's expected testimony could not begin on Thursday before Kaplan had assurances from defense attorney Alina Habba that Trump would not attempt to claim that he did not rape writer E. Jean Carroll.

"I have only three questions for my client," Habba promised, according to a report provided by Inner City Press.

"We're going to do it my way," the judge cautioned.

"He's going to stand by his deposition," Habba said. "That he had to respond to [the] accusations and deny them."

Kaplan wanted to know if Trump would go beyond that.

"I'm not testifying for my client," Habba said.

At that point, Carroll's attorney, Roberta Kaplan, informed the judge that Trump had been overheard with plans to defy the judge.

"Mr. Trump said under his breath, said he intends to say [he] never met her and had never seen her before," the attorney explained.

Judge Kaplan ruled that Habba was only allowed to ask one question about whether Trump stood behind his earlier deposition in the case.
