Former President Donald Trump may testify on Monday at the E. Jean Carroll defamation damages trial, but CNN legal analyst Elie Honig predicted that Judge Lewis Kaplan would keep Trump on a very short leash.
In analyzing the upcoming trial, Honig explained how Kaplan's method for handling show boaters in his court would quash any attempt by Trump to grandstand during his testimony.
"If [Trump] testifies, it will be very quick," Honig said. "This is not if he sexually assaulted or defamed E. Jean Carroll -- that's been decided. This is only about the question of damages. And the judge here has already, correctly, set strict parameters and said you cannot contest the things that are settled, you can't make a political speech... If he has anything to say, it will be narrow."

Honig then talked about his own experience as an attorney in Kaplan's courtroom.
"This is Lewis Kaplan, he's been on the bench for 30-plus years, and boy does he control his courtroom," explained Honig. he doesn't allow dramatics, any chaos... he will warn anybody out of line, we already found this last week with Donald Trump. And if necessary, he'll shut him down. And if absolutely necessary, he will have a person removed from the courtroom."
