A former federal prosecutor fired by President Donald Trump on Sunday delivered a blunt warning about what is happening to the rule of law in the United States.
While speaking with CBS News' "60 Minutes," attorney Sara Levine bluntly said that "the Justice Department is under attack" by the new administration.
"They're coming after the people that want to uphold the laws that exist," she told the program. "And that should be terrifying to everyone."
Levine, who was one of the attorneys who helped prosecute Trump supporters who violently stormed the United States Capitol building on January 6, 2021, told "60 Minutes" that she was fired simply for doing her job.
"I followed the facts," she said. "I followed the law. And I got fired because I did exactly what I was supposed to do."

Peter Keisler, who once served as acting Attorney General under former President George W. Bush, told "60 Minutes" that he was incredibly disturbed by the way Trump pardoned the violent criminals who attacked a coequal branch of government on his behalf.
"I don't think anybody believes that these people would've been pardoned if they had engaged in exactly the same acts, but had stormed the Capitol, say, in opposition to the president and his policies," he said. "It says that you can commit some very serious crimes, but if you do so as an identifiable supporter of the president's agenda and political interests, you may be able to get off. And I think it was designed to send that message. "
