Donald Trump's new press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, announced Tuesday that the president had solved the mystery of the New Jersey drones.
Reports of mysterious flying objects over the state in December left many rattled as officials failed to explain why they were there — though the U.S. government said it had not identified any foreign or malicious activity,
On Tuesday, Leavitt reported that Trump had discovered the flying craft were authorized by the Federal Aviation Authority.
"I do have news directly from the president of the United States that was just shared with me in the Oval Office, from President Trump directly, an update on the New Jersey drones," she told the media.
"After research and study, the drones that were flying over New Jersey in large numbers were authorized to be flown by the FAA for research and various other reasons. Many of these drones were also hobbyists, recreational and private individuals that enjoy flying drones.
"In time, it got worse due to curiosity. This was not the enemy."

On Monday, Fox News had asked Trump about the drones and he turned the question to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. "Could we find out what that was, Susie?" he asked. "Why don’t we find out immediately?"
Gizmodo reported Monday that the drones have reappeared in the northeastern United States.
