CNN’s Jamie Gangel sounded the alarm Monday over President Donald Trump’s election maneuver, warning that his offer of a $1 million reward for reporting voter fraud could be laying the groundwork for another Jan. 6-style confrontation.
“This is about Donald Trump trying to undermine election integrity,” Gangel said during a discussion on CNN’s “The Arena with Kasie Hunt.”
“January 6th was not a hallucination,” she added. “This feels as if he's setting the stage for 2.0.”
The warning came after Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that anyone reporting voter fraud in previous elections or the upcoming midterms would receive $1 million if the allegations resulted in an arrest and conviction.
CNN legal analyst Elie Honig questioned the extraordinary size of the reward, noting that the FBI once offered the same amount to capture the Unabomber.
“Everyone’s going to become Inspector Clouseau,” Honig said Monday. He went on to predict that the offer would generate “thousands upon thousands of tips that will be false, that will lead nowhere.”
The pushback came as the Justice Department is also seeking to block certification of Alaska’s Senate race if Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan loses, citing concerns about voter confusion.
Honig called the administration’s legal argument “really misleading and really devious.”
“So they’re going to lose,” he concluded. “To me it’s really just a question of when.”
