'You should be assassinated': Officials flag 'credible' threats against Trump fraud judge

Judge Arthur Engoron, the New York jurist overseeing former President Donald Trump's fraud trial, has been targeted by a series of "credible" death threats, reported Frank Runyeon of Law360.

The threats, according to the report, are "serious and credible and not hypothetical or speculative" and include antisemitic attacks. They have all been documented in a 275-page report from court security official Capt. Charles Hollon, who added, "When Mr. Trump violated the gag orders, the number of threatening, harassing and disparaging messages increased."

One of the threats detailed by the report simply stated, "You should be assassinated."

The gag order, which Trump has been fined under twice as he disparaged a court clerk who works for Engoron, is currently suspended as an appellate court reviews it.

Attorney General Letitia James, who brought the fraud suit, urged earlier Wednesday that the gag order be reinstated as soon as possible, for the safety of everyone involved in the trial.

The fraud suit alleges that the former president and his two adult sons systematically lied about their property values in order to get more favorable loan terms and lower tax bills. Engoron has already ruled against Trump on the merits in summary judgment, leaving the remainder of the trial primarily a question of damages.
