Donald Trump late Thursday made a statement that was immediately seized upon by his critics.

Answering questions for reporters, Trump made claims about the economy, and said that the media was falsely reporting the facts. His last sentence triggered celebration from his enemies.

"Our energy costs are way down. Our groceries are way down. Everything is way down. And the press does not report it. The press reports whatever the con people say," he said, noting that "Thanksgiving meals" are "25% down," a claim that has been debunked previously.

Trump added, "So I don't want to hear about the affordability."

That is the key phrase that Democrats picked up on.

MSNBC's Chris Hayes said, "Trump saying 'I don't want to hear about affordability' is a real gift."

"Usually he exists outside of the realm and logic of 'gaffes' but that one is gonna get a lot of play," Hayes added.

House Dem insider Aaron Fritschner chimed in, "'I don't want to hear about affordability' is coming to an ad near you, you can take it to the bank."

Dem influencer Harry Sisson added, "Trump just lied about prices and then said 'I don't want to hear about the affordability.' Do you hear that America? Trump couldn’t care less about your rising costs. But don’t worry! His billionaire friends are doing just fine."

Neera Tanden, a former government official, noted, "I'm looking forward to the ads of Trump saying 'So I don't want to hear about the affordability' and Trump morphing into Mike Lawler."

"Will be a fun midterm!" she added.
