If God gave the world Trump, The Lincoln Project wants to make it clear that God also gave the world dictators.
Tara Setmayer, part of the conservative collective formed in 2019 with the agenda to defeat Donald Trump at the ballot box and "ensure Trumpism failed alongside him," said the group sought to create its own version of a video running at Trump rallies repeating the line "God gave us Trump" manufactured from the A.I. voice of the late Paul Harvey radio broadcaster, which essentially plays up the notion that The Don is a deity in human form.

It begins: “God looked down on his planned paradise and said, ‘I need a caretaker,’ so God gave us Trump."
The narrator then calls the former president a "shepherd to mankind who won’t ever leave nor forsake them.”
Setmayer appearing on MSNBC's "The Reid Out" aimed to correct the Biblical reach of the video by showcasing an answer to it.
"Donald Trump's campaign actually has been showing a similar ad called god made Trump. That's why we responded," she explained. "We said, 'Oh, no, no, no. God also allowed for dictators, too.'"
In the Lincoln Project's version, they suggest God also made Trump... the dictator.
"God said 'I need a corrupt man who is above the law and immune from justice'... So God made a dictator."
"God said 'I need a man who will use violence to seize power'.... God said 'I need a man whose followers will call black white, call evil good and call criminals hostages'... so God made a dictator."
For Setmayer, the doctrine spreading to immortalize Trump and sanitize his works, has gone too far. And she blames evangelicals for allowing this to happen.
"They are so far away from the gospels of Jesus," she said. "Can you imagine if the evangelical church actually followed what they claim to preach in the Bible?
"We wouldn't have had four years of Donald Trump. We wouldn't have had an insurrection on January 6th. We wouldn't have had the cruelty with kids in cages. We wouldn't have had this idea that character doesn't seem to matter anymore... Instead, they're following their golden orange god in Donald Trump and this is a way of us pointing that out."
