After Maine's Secretary of State decided that Trump engaged in insurrection and iced him out from appearing on the GOP primary ballot — legal expert Norman Eisen hailed it as "historic" and even a "proud moment."
Eisen lauded Secretary of State Shenna Bellows' determination to disqualify the 45th president from her state's 2024 primary ballot primarily based on her being convinced that he stood in violation of the Civil War-era Section 3 of the 14th Amendment in the Constitution.
He agreed with Bellows that "the 14th amendment bars a presidential candidate, who engaged in insurrection" and added "I think that's correct."
The move, Eisen says, holds incredible power for the country.
"It's a historic opinion by Secretary Bellows."

And it also had him admiring how the checks on power are indeed working to vet any other candidate running for the highest position in the free world.
"I see this as a proud moment in our democracy," he said. "This is how our checks and balances are supposed to work."
He continued: "We should take a hard look at a candidate who implicates these 14th Amendment concerns of insurrection," he said. "So, this is American democracy in action."
"As wrong as some people are saying... that its antidemocratic — it is never against American democracy to apply the United States Constitution."
