Fox host excuses Trump's Hitleresque rhetoric: 'He's married to an immigrant'

Former President Donald Trump has taken criticism in recent days for saying that immigrants "poison the blood" of America, as such rhetoric directly echoes that employed in the past by Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

On Fox Business Tuesday, host David Asman questioned fellow Fox host Bret Baier about the wisdom of employing such language, which he said was hard to defend even for people who support the former president.

"Is there any sign that anybody in his campaign is going to try to answer [concerns about his rhetoric]?" Asman asked.

"Not really," replied Baier. "Listen, it's the word he chose. I think it raised a lot of eyebrows, not only on the democratic side but in Republican circles. Obviously it hearkens back to some, uh... writings. And it's been written about in numerous articles."

During the segment, Baier never explained that the "numerous articles" that have been written about Trump's rhetoric said that it hearkened back to the words of Hitler to describe Jews.

The Fox News host then pivoted to offering up plausible deniability when it comes to the former president's use of Nazi rhetoric.

"But it's also important to point out, the former president is married to an immigrant who just did a naturalization ceremony at the National Archives," he said. "So there's a disconnect there, if that's the dog whistle he's sending."

This is not the first time Trump has employed Nazi-like rhetoric, as earlier this year he compared his domestic political opponents to "vermin" who needed to be eradicated.
