A former Republican operative demanded a purge of everyone in the Trump administration who was part of recent controversies.
During an episode of The Warning, Steve Schmidt spoke about how President Donald Trump has made Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) "irredeemable." Firing ICE agents rushed through training by Trump "should be a threshold issue" for anyone "thinking of running for president as a Democrat," Schmidt said.
"I'm gonna help you out here, I'm going to give you the right answer on ICE," Schmidt said. "Every single ICE agent, all of them, 100 percent of them who went through the 47 days of training in honor of Trump and were handed a badge and a weapon are done."
Schmidt was speaking about the agency in light of two recent killings by ICE agents in Texas and Maine. Schmidt said that the next Democratic president shouldn't waste time in gutting the federal agency by signing an executive order aimed at agents as well as people who followed Trump's orders in the wake of those ICE killings.
"Every government lawyer, every agent in the chain of custody of the memos that has ordered a withdrawal of FBI investigators from shootings involving ICE, their careers are over," Schmidt said. "There's going to be a big purge of everybody who got in line with this."
Schmidt wanted to see "the restoration" of federal law enforcement institutions, which "starts with the breaking up of the Department of Homeland Security," the parent agency of ICE. The breakup would include "the abolishment of ICE. This agency is irredeemable," Schmidt said.
