Comedian and political commentator Dave Smith, a Libertarian who supported Donald Trump in the 2024 elections, is calling for the president's impeachment due to his handling of nuclear talks with Iran.
Smith appeared Monday on the Breaking Points YouTube series with Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti.
"Donald Trump telling [Iran] to come back to the negotiating table, man, was a joke. I mean, what an impotent leader!" Smith declared. "It's like sitting after Pearl Harbor and telling FDR, 'Now is the time to go negotiate with the Japanese.'"
Smith said the time for negotiations was before Israel started trading missile fire with Iran over the theocratic republic's development of nuclear weapons.
"Listen man, I supported him this last year. I apologize for doing so. It was a bad calculation. At the time, it seemed like the right one. But, he should be impeached and removed for this one," Smith said, eliciting surprised reactions from the hosts.
"Of course, the Congress will never do it because they're all a bunch of, you know, corrupt hacks," Smith said before urging MAGA to stand up to the president.
"All of his supporters should turn on him. This is the absolute betrayal of everything he ran and campaigned on and everything that he stood for...He is going to lose his coalition over this. I don't just speak for myself when I say, there are a lot of us who simply won't go along with this."
Smith also declared that Trump should expect to "lose the deportation fight because of this."
"Right now, he needed all the political capital he could have. You have a majority support for deportations, but the minority is very mobilized and they're out and they're protesting all around the country. He needed all of his political capital for that move. So, here's what we've got: the neocons win. More war abroad — bomb the world and invite the world."
