President Donald Trump only has the funds to keep the Iran war going for around three more months, a key Republican lawmaker said.
Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK), chair of the House Appropriations Committee, "says the Pentagon will run out of money for Iran by 'probably August' and Congress is 'running out of time' to process an Iran supplemental," according to Punchbowl News congressional reporter Anthony Adragna.
"I'm very concerned," Cole told Punchbowl News.
This comes at a moment when the war is already rising in unpopularity and Democrats are forcing votes in the Senate every day to block Trump from continuing to prosecute the war. Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), who was just defeated with Trump's opposition in his Senate primary, has now crossed the aisle to join Democrats in supporting these measures.
Since the war began earlier this year, the Strait of Hormuz — where roughly one-fifth of the world's oil shipping passes — has been effectively shut down, leading to a surge in energy prices around the world.
