A prosecutor who beat a DOJ indictment hit back on Saturday, saying that President Donald Trump has done nothing to improve the dangerous fentanyl situation in the U.S., choosing instead to "pardon a drug kingpin."
New York Attorney General Letitia James hit back against Trump, who sought her indictment for alleged mortgage crimes apparently in response to her successful criminal indictment against him on numerous business fraud counts ahead of the 2024 election. The case brought against James was tossed, and then a grand jury refused to issue a second indictment against her.
James can be seen in the video on stage getting applause as she criticized Trump's recent pardon of former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández. Hernández was convicted in June 2024 on U.S. federal charges for conspiring to traffic more than 400 tons of cocaine into the country, and he was ultimately sentenced to 45 years in prison.
"He pardoned the former President of Honduras. He’s a drug kingpin! He talks about how he wants to stop all these drugs from coming into our country. He was one of the largest drug pins and you just pardoned him," she said Saturday. "And what the hell have you done with regards to fentanyl? What have you done on opioids?"
