There is a "link" between Donald Trump and a man the president has called a "communist" and a "disaster," according to a former Republican insider.
Trump has lashed out at Zohran Mamdani, who appears poised to become the next mayor of New York City, according to experts. Mamdani is a member of the Democratic Party and the Democratic Socialists of America.
Political strategist Steve Schmidt, an independent political operative who worked on former President George W. Bush's campaign, highlighted the similarity in an essay published Friday.
Schmidt lambasts Trump and his administration, even calling Trump FBI Director Kash Patel a "grifter." He goes on to argue, "A check must be put on Trump and the Roberts Court, which means electing Democratic majorities in the House and Senate, but this does not and cannot mean a Schumer majority."
On that topic, Schmidt turned toward the headline-grabbing Democratic-socialist from New York.
"Curiously, most commentators haven’t made the connection and link between Trump and Zohran Mamdani," Schmidt wrote. "They both beat the exact same people: the Democratic establishment of Andrew Cuomo and Chuck Schumer."
According to Schmidt, "It is the job of Democratic voters to nominate winning candidates who can build broad reform coalitions that are made up of Democrats, independents and dissident Republicans, who will raise up the flag and vote out the traitors."
